Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum has struggled for form lately, and his latest performance for the Netherlands saw him unfortunately come for some criticism in the national press.
The 29-year-old took part in all three of the Oranje’s games during the October international break as they lost 1-0 to Mexico, played out a stalemate against Bosnia, and drew 1-1 in Italy.
Wijnaldum was largely anonymous against El Tri, going off on the hour mark, and while he did create a couple of chances in the second game, he still struggled to get involved.

The Netherlands put in a much-improved performance against the Azzurri in Bergamo, with Donny van de Beek cancelling out Lorenzo Pellegrini’s early strike.
However, Wijnaldum struggled once again, and was given a 5/10 by Football Oranje, who wrote: “Invisible and sloppy with the ball, Wijnaldum had a poor game again for Oranje. A player looking for form.”
Meanwhile, VP gave him 5.5/10 and wrote: “Lagged behind Van de Beek and De Jong in midfield. The Oranje team was playing better and better, but Wijnaldum mainly had unfortunate moments. He was clearly looking for form.”
TBR View:
Wijnaldum has been solid for Liverpool and the Netherlands over the past few years, and while a slump in form is always going to be a cause for concern, such things are temporary.
Besides, if anyone can work with Wijnaldum and help him out, the great Jurgen Klopp can – maybe a bit of rest will do him good, and surely it won’t be long before he’s back on track.
