Liverpool midfield talent likely to leave on loan today - report
Liverpool academy midfielder Jake Cain is likely to leave Anfield on loan on transfer deadline day, according to The Athletic.
The outlet claims the Reds prodigy could be on his way to League Two outfit Newport today.
Liverpool will reportedly let Cain leave on a season-long loan, albeit with a January recall option.
Assistant manager Pep Lijnders has been key to the deal given his good relationship with Newport boss Michael Flynn, added the report.
It would be Cain’s first stint away from Liverpool after coming through the ranks at the Merseyside outfit.
Cain was in and around the Liverpool first-team last season.
He made nine Champions League matchday squads and two Premier League matchday squads in 2020-21.
In 2019-20, meanwhile, Cain made his Reds debut, in the FA Cup fourth round replay win over Shrewsbury.
According to the Liverpool Echo, regular observers say his running power and is something to behold.
Indeed, there have even been early comparisons to Jordan Henderson, added the outlet.
At Under-23 level, Cain scored six goals and claimed five assists from 17 Premier League 2 appearances last term.
He also scored in one of his three EFL Trophy appearances in 2020-21.
This term, meanwhile, Cain has made one appearance at Premier League 2 level.
