Liverpool look set to miss out on the signature of Middlesbrough’s unsettled wonderkid Bilal Brahimi to Rennes, according to Sunday People, 17/03, Page 50.

They report that both the Reds and Newcastle United have been on the trial of the 19-year-old, who does not want to remain at the Riverside Stadium beyond the end of this season.

But the Premier League duo are about to miss out on the teenager, who is all set to sign for Ligue 1 outfit Rennes, who were seen off in the last 16 of the Europa League last week by Arsenal.

It may be a concern for Jurgen Klopp that his side’s pulling power is not as strong as that of a reasonably middling French outfit, but it shouldn’t be.

Brahimi is from Paris, and the move looks simply like a case of a young player looking to return to his home country to get more settled.

The move to England is tough for any young player from abroad and perhaps a change of scene is just what he needs to kickstart his career and make the most of the talent he has.

Liverpool’s own current crop of young players, including Harry Wilson and Ben Woodburn cannot even force their way regularly into Klopp’s plans, even in light of a reasonably light squad depth at Anfield.
