Back in the summer of 2015, Liverpool decided to bring in the talented Nigerian attacker Taiwo Awoniyi with a fee of £400,000 paid for his services, as reported by The Guardian. That fee was paid to Swedish side Kalmar, who had the right of first-option on the player if he was to leave the Imperial Academy in Nigeria, as reported by Pulse.

Spells at FSV Frankfurt and NEC Nijmegen followed, both ended in relegation. Last season however he had a far better campaign with Royal Excelsior Mouscron. He scored 10 goals in 31 games and Liverpool, therefore, tied him down to a new deal. As reported by TEAMtalk, the likes of Barcelona and Manchester City were keen so Liverpool secured his Anfield future.

After that, he was sent out on loan to Gent in the summer, with the hope it would be a challenging but impressive step up for the player.

However, the 21-year-old struggled. He failed to score a single goal in the Belgian top-flight and was allowed to return to Mouscron earlier this month.

Clearly, he is more comfortable at Stade Le Canonnier. Liverpool fans will be pleased to hear that he has scored two goals in his first two games back with Les Hurlus.

Yesterday, he scored the last-minute winner as Mouscron defeated Europa League contenders Genk away from home.

Liverpool fans will hope he can continue to thrive with his favoured loan club. If he can, a bright future at Anfield might still be in the offing.
