Liverpool are being linked with a potential summer move for Senegalese talent Ismaila Sarr. Calciomercato is reporting that Liverpool have the Rennes attacker on their radar ahead of the summer. Now it is something of a small report and it is odd a source in Italy has the scoop on this potential Anglo-French transfer.
However, it would certainly be an exciting addition, even if the report amounts to little more than conjecture.
Especially as, throughout his short career, he has been compared to Liverpool’s in-form star Sadio Mane.
The youngster even replaced Mane when making his Senegal debut as a teenager. After that game, he told Le Quotidien just how big a role model Mane is.
“Sadio is a role model for me.
“He is a good player. He always advises me. Even on the bench, he told me to be ready to replace him.”
It was not only time he would speak up Mane’s influence. In February he was asked by WIW Sport if he felt he could follow in the footsteps of Mane’s career. To which he responded:
“Why not…that’s what I want, but I have to work again.
“I have to mark something here in Rennes before going to other countries or clubs. You have to win something or get the club to the quarterfinals or semi-finals.”
So clearly Sarr has a special relationship toward the Liverpool sensation. That must give the Reds an edge in future transfer dealings for the player, who has plenty of European clubs on alert.
If Liverpool could bring him in, then under Mane’s tutelage they may have a ready-made carbon copy back-up.
