Liverpool linked with £96k-a-week attacker that Jamie Carragher called ‘brilliant’ last season

Jamie Carragher was full of praise for West Ham star Jarrod Bowen during last season, amid reported interest from Liverpool this month.

The Athletic reported on Wednesday that Bowen is on Liverpool’s radar, as they draw up a transfer shortlist of attacking targets.

It is understood that Jurgen Klopp rates him highly, so they’ll continue to monitor him even if they don’t ramp up their interest this summer.

In addition, The Liverpool Echo reports Bowen’s agents have encouraged the Merseyside club to sign their agent.

The £96,000-a-week star is a left-footed winger that played a key role in West Ham qualifying for Europe last season. He scored eight goals and made six assists in 38 league appearances.

Pundit and ex-Liverpool player Carragher gave some interesting praise of the Reds target last year:

“Bowen, he’s been a brilliant signing,” Carragher said in November last season on Sky Sports’ Main Event channel (30/11; 10:38pm).

“He’s just one of those players, he always nicks a goal. Every three or four games, you see him on the scoresheet.”

Carragher likes Jarrod Bowen, but should Liverpool step up interest?

Bowen has shown during his time in the Premier League he’s an excellent talent.

He’s most effective as a right-winger cutting infield, but can play centrally, too.

Liverpool are crying out for some extra cover in the final third to ease the burden off their key men, so on paper the West Ham star looks like he could fit the ball.

However, it’s unclear on how much the Englishman would cost.

Chipping in with goals like Carragher mentions is what Liverpool need from more in their squad, but it depends if Bowen would be prepared for less game time.
