Liverpool could challenge Tottenham and make an audacious bid for former Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez, better known as Chicharito, say the Mirror. Valencia are also interested in the 28-year-old, who is said to have a £33.5 million release clause in his contract at Bayer Leverkusen.
With seven goals in 20 games to date this campaign, it is hard to see how he would be first choice for Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool or how he would offer an improvement on either Daniel Sturridge or Divock Origi, but he would add depth to the front line.
Klopp has spoken this week to give details of the recovery plan for 19-year-old Joe Gomez as he continues his return from a year out with serious knee and Achilles injuries, as he revealed that a loan move was highly unlikely, saying:
“No to the second question about a loan. For us, I don’t think so. We had a very good talk. What I think about Joe Gomez is he is an unbelievable talent, which everybody knew before. It’s a long injury and if we send him on loan, with his quality, a team will play him every game. That is not what he needs in the moment. Because he was a long time injured he needs us to judge: ‘now play, now stop, rest, work on this, do this, do a little bit on this’… He’s our boy for the future 100%… So maybe he is an option for the first team. But maybe not for this season… There’s no rush for him, and no rush for me. At this moment I would say ‘no loan’ but everything else, we will see.”
Gomez has featured for the under 23s of late and is expected to continue with that until he has gained more match fitness to compete for a first team spot.
Another youngster could be on his way to Anfield as the Reds reportedly prepare a £22.5 million move for Ivory Coast international Franck Kessie, say Corriere dello Sport. The 19-year-old has scored five times in 13 games for Atlanta in Serie A this season and has also attracted attention from Juventus and Chelsea.
The holding midfielder, who has found form on a goalscoring front with shots from distance this campaign, is said to be a Manchester United fan, but is desperate for a move to the Premier League through any means necessary.
