Liverpool can become regular title challengers by beating Manchester United to signing of Kalidou Koulibaly

Liverpool could lose top spot this evening but it is fair to say they are firmly in the hunt for their first Premier League title.

The Reds will lose their place at the summit should Manchester City beat Everton in this evening’s game.

Regardless of what happens in terms of the title, Liverpool are becoming a force once again.

Annual qualification for the Champions League will give Jurgen Klopp every chance of attracting the world’s very best players to Anfield.

It is a reasonable assessment to say that the Reds might look to add world-class central defender next to Virgil van Dijk.

Joe Gomez looks like a big player for the future but if Klopp is to challenge for the title year on year then he could need that little bit extra.

With Gomez and Dejan Lovren injured, Joel Matip has been called upon on occasions this season.

If Liverpool are going to strengthen anywhere in the summer then safe money would be on it being at the back.

According to the Evening Standard, Manchester United are in the pursuit of Napoli central defender Kalidou Koulibaly; and it makes perfect sense for the Reds to rival their fierce competitors.

Liverpool should have the edge on United when it comes to signing players these days.

There is absolutely no certainty at this stage that United will even be in the Champions League next season, whilst Liverpool’s participation looks nailed on.

If Liverpool are genuinely serious about becoming regular title challengers then Koulibaly would enhance those chances no end.

The 27-year-old has played all but two of Napoli’s league fixtures this season and his aggressive style of defending would be welcome in the Premier League.
