Liverpool: Klopp defends Karius; Lallana discusses PSG speculation; shocking Balotelli clause
After a disappointing and shocking defeat against Bournemouth on Sunday, Jurgen Klopp was forced to defend his side and goalkeeper Loris Karius after his error allowed Nathan Ake to score a late winner, prompting criticism from Jamie Carragher. Klopp responded by saying:
“No concern; no problem. If you make mistakes you get criticised. That’s what happens in life. I’m sure people criticised Jamie Carragher in his career. The last goal was not easy for a goalkeeper. It says nothing about him as a goalkeeper. It happens… I was angry during the game a few times. My boys didn’t want to do the wrong thing; but they did and lost the momentum. It’s not simple to come back. We were 100 per cent before now. Now we are 99 per cent. But it’s quite simple to go back to 100 per cent.”
The German was visibly furious at times on the touchline as his side threw away a 3-1 lead to lose 4-3.
One of the positives of the day was the return of Adam Lallana, who has missed several games after suffering a groin injury whilst on international duty with England. Lallana has been linked with a £40 million bid from Paris Saint-Germain recently, to which he responded as he said:
“I love it here at the minute, especially since the manager has come in. We have each other’s trust and you don’t always get that at clubs. The thought of leaving Liverpool has never entered my mind. It’s a great compliment to be spoken of in the same breath as a club like PSG with those sorts of numbers, but I’m absolutely loving my football at the minute under this boss and I can only see myself being here for the long term.”
The Sunday Times have also revealed that before leaving, Mario Balotelli had a ludicrous clause in his contract which would see him collect a £1 million bonus if he managed to avoid three sendings off per season for violent conduct, spitting “or behaviour not befitting of a Liverpool player”.
The Italian has finally found form whilst with Nice with six goals and one red card in six league games as his side sit three points clear at the top of Ligue 1.
