Gary Lineker has taken to Twitter to label Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson as arguably the most underrated player in Premier League history.

The England international helped Liverpool to go 49 games unbeaten in the league as the Reds beat Sheffield United 2-0.

Goals from Mo Salah and Sadio Mane ensured Liverpool’s lead at the summit of the division went back to 13 points.

It’s over 30 years since Liverpool got their hands on a league title. In the Premier League era, they’ve never lifted the trophy but that should change during 2019/20.

It would take a monumental collapse for Liverpool not to claim the title and Henderson will be dreaming of lifting the trophy.

The 29-year-old has played in 27 games in all competitions this season taking his tally at Anfield to 351.

Lineker certainly appreciates what a quality player he is and took to Twitter to state as much:

Henderson arrived at Liverpool from Sunderland in 2011. Since arriving he has progressed with each passing year and is now a firm fan favourite.

He lifted the Champions League last season and will relish the chance to lift the Premier League crown this time around.

The ex-Black Cats midfielder only cost £20 million which seems like a steal given his importance to the team.

The £140,000-a-week (Spotrac) ace is a key component of Liverpool’s midfield engine room and he is also a regular in the England team, collecting 55 caps over the years.

Lineker’s point about Henderson is valid. Liverpool are a worse side without him in the team and his impact is occasionally undervalued.
