Liverpool fans in awe of Joe Gomez after Wolves victory

Liverpool showed their resilience to beat Wolves 1-0 at Anfield yesterday and go 13 points clear at the top of the Premier League.

The Reds weren’t at their best against a well-drilled Wolves outfit but three points were ultimately claimed.

Sadio Mane decided the contest but it was Liverpool’s defensive work that caught the eye.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s men defeated Manchester City on Friday night and Liverpool knew they’d provide a stern test.

Pedro Neto saw a goal ruled out by VAR, whilst there were some suspicions of handball in the build-up to the Liverpool goal.

Nonetheless, Liverpool got the win and are now in cruise control in their bid to win their first title in the Premier League-era.

One man who did earn rave reviews for yesterday’s performance was defender Joe Gomez.

The central defender has now started the last four league games and is looking brilliant alongside Virgil van Dijk. The duo has helped Liverpool to four successive clean sheets in the league.

He had been forced to wait patiently behind Joel Matip and Dejan Lovren but he will be keen to grasp this chance.

Gomez signed for Liverpool in 2015, costing £3.5 million from Charlton (BBC Sport).

He now has 87 appearances under his belt for the Reds and eight England caps. If his form maintains he will surely be going to Euro 2020 with Gareth Southgate’s team.
