Jamie Redknapp says Liverpool have an incredible 20-year-old in their ranks
Liverpool cult hero and Sky Sports pundit Jamie Redknapp has waxed lyrical about Reds ace Curtis Jones.
The 20-year-old delivered arguably his finest performance for the Reds earlier this week.
Jurgen Klopp named Jones in the Liverpool XI for the Champions League trip to Porto on Tuesday.
The young midfielder was simply sensational in the 5-1 win, playing a hand in all five of the visitors’ goals.
Jones’ display against Porto announced him to the wider footballing world and showed he’s a future star.
This Sunday, Liverpool host Manchester City on Merseyside, and Redknapp has earmarked Jones as the player to watch.
“I’m a big fan of Curtis Jones, I love the way he plays,” he told Sky Sports.
“He can score goals, he’s got good energy, works hard for the team.
“In a way, his nose might have been put out of joint when Harvey Elliott was starting earlier in the season.
“He probably thought when Georginio Wijnaldum was going that this is a big opportunity for him but he’s had to wait.
“That injury to Elliott has given him a chance and he’s certainly taken it.
“He was very good in midweek, against Brentford he took his goal well.
“He’s a local lad and that’s something the Liverpool fans love to see.”
Jones boasts over half a century of appearances for his boyhood club and there’s bound to be plenty more to come.
He also has the honour of being Liverpool’s youngest ever captain in a game, a contract until 2025, and six England Under-21 caps.
