Liverpool are interested in signing talented Sporting Lisbon youngster Idrissa Doumbia, according to Portuguese outlet Record.
The 21-year-old was in action against Jurgen Klopp’s team in the recent friendly which finished 2-2.
Whilst star man Bruno Fernandes was the name on everyone’s lips, it was the young Ivorian who caught the eye of the Liverpool boss.
Doumbia was in tidy form showcasing an array of passing and intelligence which belied his tender years.
The report suggests that Liverpool see the player as a star of the future and were impressed with how he coped up against a strong Reds midfield.
Doumbia played 14 games for Lisbon last season; having spent the first half of the season on loan with Russian outfit Akhmat Grozny.
If Liverpool go to Sporting Lisbon to sign a player that isn’t Bruno Fernandes, all hell could well break loose at Anfield.
The Reds fans desperately want to see the man who scored 32 goals and registered 18 assists last season on Merseyside next season.
Nothing against Doumbia but the supporters won’t want him. There is an argument that perhaps he’s the right player at the wrong time.
The reigning Champions of Europe don’t really need to splash the cash this summer but Fernandes would be an excellent addition to Klopp’s ranks.
