Trent Alexander-Arnold scored Liverpool’s winning goal yesterday and afterwards, he received Instagram praise from Harvey Elliott, Ian Rush and Sir Kenny Dalglish.

He also received a jovial post from Jack Grealish who summed up his thoughts after missing the 2-1 defeat against Liverpool with an injury problem.

The young right-back has been a hot topic for discussion of late, with plenty quick to question his ability.

Although he’s had a bad season he hasn’t become a poor player and the 22-year-old silenced his critics against Villans.

His injury-time winner was enough to give the Reds all three points and help them back into contention for a Champions League spot.

Afterwards, he took to Instagram and received some congratulatory messages.

Last month, Alexander-Arnold lost his England place. Gareth Southgate chose not to name him in his 23-man squad for the latest World Cup qualifiers in a hammer blow for the youngster.

He now has to prove his critics wrong and showcase the fact that form is temporary and class is indeed permanent.

His winning goal yesterday was a positive step in the right direction and he’ll hope to go on a decent run of form now.

The £75,0000-a-week player hasn’t suddenly become a bad player. He, like many Liverpool players this season, hasn’t been at his top level and the challenge is to rediscover himself.

Jurgen Klopp’s team are back in contention for a top-four finish now and although they have work to do a consistent run could see them claim a Champions League place.

Alexander-Arnold can only look forwards now and yesterday was just the tonic for the Liverpool star.
