John Arne-Riise has teased Everton fans on Twitter after the Toffees managed to hold Liverpool to a 0-0 draw in Sunday afternoon’s Merseyside derby at Goodison Park.
Both sides had chances throughout the match but neither could find the back of the net. It meant neither side took the bragging rights home, but Everton were indeed the happier of both sides.
Mo Salah had the game’s best chances but he was uncharacteristically poor throughout, with his first touch letting him down. At the other end, Dom Calvert-Lewin came close to scoring with a header.
Riise posted on Twitter after the match, as Liverpool slipped to second behind Manchester City who beat Bournemouth on Saturday. He criticised Everton fans for their celebration – which the ex-Reds star feels shows “how far behind they are”.
When Everton fans are celebrating that much for a point shows how far behind they are 😳🤫

Riise misses the point. It is not as if Everton fans are delighted with a point. Indeed, fans cannot happy with the fact that Marco Silva has picked up seven points from their last 24.
Everton fans celebrated because the point has seen Manchester City go above Liverpool at the top of the Premier League. The last thing Everton fans want is to see Liverpool win the title.
The draw on Sunday could be a crucial point in Liverpool’s bid to finally win the league again, and that is why Everton fans were delighted – contrary to Riise’s point.
