Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson has told the club’s official website that Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will be like a new signing next season.

The ex-Arsenal performer missed the majority of last season after rupturing his ACL at the end of the 2017/18 campaign.

Prior to his injury Oxlade-Chamberlain was relishing life in a new central midfield role under Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp.

Henderson feels that the 25-year-old can contribute in a big way next season, now he is back to full fitness.

The captain told the club’s official website: “He’s like a new signing for us, he’s such a fantastic player, so powerful and he gives us something different in this team.

“Alex is a massive player for us to have back. Hopefully, he can just stay injury-free for a while now.

“This pre-season is important for him, just to get back playing games regularly and get his match fitness back. I’m sure once he does that he’ll be flying again.”

Liverpool won the Champions League last season and Henderson paid homage to the part that Oxlade-Chamberlain played away from the pitch.

He continued: “Off the field last season he was a massive part behind the scenes, even though he had a really bad injury and I’m sure he will have been going through some painful times.

“He was always positive, always happy around the team, there to support us when we needed him and was a massive part for us off the field. Hopefully this season he has a big part to play on the field too.”

TBR Verdict

It’s extremely cliched but Henderson could be spot on when he says that Oxlade-Chamberlain will be like a new signing.

After a slow start to his Liverpool career, the 25-year-old was just starting to get into his stride before his cruel injury struck.

That is all behind him now, however, and he will be keen to make amends.

A fully-fit Oxlade-Chamberlain could be a real weapon for Jurgen Klopp to have in his armoury next season.

The Premier League better watch out as the £120k-a-week performer will be keen to make up for last time and fire Liverpool towards more titles.
