Liverpool have now asked PL side how much they want for their 'top quality' midfielder - journalist
Duncan Castles has claimed on the Transfer Window Podcast that Liverpool have made contact over signing Yves Bissouma.
Liverpool have been linked with Bissouma throughout the summer transfer window, and it is claimed that they have now asked Brighton & Hove Albion just how much they want for the midfielder.
Liverpool are not the only club looking at Bissouma right now, though.
Both Manchester United and Arsenal also have put feelers out to see if Brighton would be open to selling the midfielder, who has been hailed as ‘top quality’ by Jamie Carragher (Sky).
Albion have already offloaded Ben White this summer which reduces their financial need to sell.
But with the scale of interest from bigger clubs mounting, it could be difficult to keep hold of their star midfielder.
Liverpool, for their part, have been quiet throughout the transfer window so far.
But now that they have asked about Bissouma’s availability, it will be interesting to see if they make a late bid.
“My information is that there are inquiries from Liverpool, Manchester United and Arsenal as to how much it would cost to sign him,” Castles said.
“Now he has improved significantly during his time at Brighton and what is quite important here is that his statistics are exceptionally good.
“We know that clubs – in particular United, Liverpool and Arsenal – are particularly heavy on this and use analytics as a filter to decide which players to pursue.
“You can see why his game would fit Liverpool’s set up under Klopp.
“I understand that Brighton have opened discussions with Bissouma about improving his salary and extending his contract with the idea of keeping hold of him for at least another season.”
Bissouma has started the campaign in fine form, and his recent performance for Brighton against Watford was hugely impressive.
Liverpool could benefit from the addition of a midfielder, after losing Georginio Wijnaldum over the summer.
Liverpool do have other options in the centre of the park, with Harvey Elliott emerging into a real prospect.
But Bissouma would add more steel to their midfield than the creative options they have, such as Elliott, Thiago, Curtis Jones, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
