Liverpool have golden opportunity to sign £120,000-a-week warrior linked in 2019 - TBR View
Back in 2019, Liverpool reached an agreement with Lyon to complete the signing of Tanguy Ndombele. The player, of course, went to Tottenham instead but they could now have a golden chance to complete the signing of a player they so badly wanted.
The France international looks to be out of the reckoning at Tottenham. He became a father for the first time during the summer, although his absence from Nuno Espirito’s plans has been somewhat bizarre.
He wasn’t included against Manchester City on Sunday, whilst he’s not been named in the Tottenham squad to face Pacos de Ferreira in the Europa Conference League tomorrow.
Liverpool should pounce for Ndombele
This could open the door for Liverpool. The Reds are still seeking some reinforcements but are unlikely to make any movements for big-money signings.
Given his current predicament, it wouldn’t be against the realms of possibility that Tottenham let Ndombele leave on loan. Although, not part of their typical recruitment plans, this particular loan signing could prove a decent one.
Tottenham are unlikely to sell and if they do, they’ll want good money. Ndombele was signed for £63 million back in 2019 and has proved a largely decent addition.
He has made 75 appearances, scoring eight goals and claiming eight assists. Ndombele is among the high-earning players at Tottenham too, paid £120,000-a-week by the club.
Would Ndombele fit in at Liverpool?
Jurgen Klopp lost Gini Wijnaldum this summer on a free transfer to PSG. With that in mind, another midfielder certainly wouldn’t go amiss. One with the ability of Ndombele would be an added bonus.
The beauty of Liverpool signing Ndombele is that he can operate in a number of midfield roles. He can play the defensive, tough-tackling holding player, whilst he’s also capable of breaking the lines and moving into the final third.
Klopp likes his players to be versatile and he’d surely relish the chance to land Ndombele if he were to become available this summer.
The ball is seemingly in Tottenham’s court. It does seem as though Espirito Santo prefers other options for now though and Liverpool would be wise to utilise this golden opportunity.
