Liverpool have already made another signing who could take Hugo Ekitike to the next level

Liverpool often recruit sensibly with a clear vision for new signings.

Whereas Manchester City could already sell Nico Gonzalez – just six months after taking the Spaniard from Porto in a £50m move – Liverpool tend to have a plan.

For example, the arrivals of Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah within two years saw a formidable trio emerge, as the latter duo stayed high and wide, with the Brazilian dropping deep in a false nine role to create space in behind for them.

Signings often seem to be made with the intention of clicking with another cog in the team, which is exactly what we could be about to witness occur between Milos Kerkez and Hugo Ekitike.

Milos Kerkez could help Hugo Ekitike unlock a new gear

TBR Football understand Liverpool are close to signing Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt in a deal worth over £78m.

Despite scoring 22 goals in 48 games last season – and 55 throughout his entire career – only six of these have been headers, which is odd when you consider the Frenchman boasts a lanky 6ft 4in frame.

In fairness, Ekitike simply may not have received the right service to utilise his physique over the years, although the presence of Kerkez down the left at Liverpool should leave him with no excuses whatsoever.

The Hungary international proved himself as one of the most effective crossers of a ball in the entire Premier League last season, registering six assists in 38 appearances, two of those coming in a 2-0 win over Manchester City.

As you can see, both of those were fine assists, but not as impressive as his delivery for Marcus Tavernier away at Tottenham, which some could quite justly call the best cross of the entire campaign.

Just imagine these whipped deliveries entering a box where Ekitike lurks – the partnership could well cause all sorts of chaos for opposition backlines.

Hugo Ekitike can still be a threat for Liverpool even without headers

Should the 23-year-old continue to struggle when it comes to scoring headers at Liverpool, the Anfield faithful should still see plenty of ability from him.

Ekitike could be another Luis Suarez at Liverpool despite his lanky frame, as he boasts admirable attacking intelligence and footwork – his tally of 12 assists last season proves he is not just a goalscorer.

Lionel Messi is also a big fan of Ekitike, nicknaming the France U21 international the “iron rod” at PSG in recognition of his tall, thin frame, but lightning-quick speed.

Therefore, should Kerkez fail to pick his new teammate out, the man born in Reims can still pose a threat regardless.
