Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp told the club’s official website of his delight at the performance of Harvey Elliott in last night’s Carabao Cup win at MK Dons.
The Reds ran out 2-0 winners at Stadium MK with goals from James Milner and Ki-Jana Hoever setting up a last 16 clash with Arsenal.
Klopp opted to ring the changes against the League One outfit with several youngsters getting the opportunity to shine.
Elliott was one of the players given the platform to stake his claim for a place. The 16-year-old signed for Liverpool from Fulham in the summer following the expiration of his youth contract at Craven Cottage.

His boss was desperately impressed with his debut showing and couldn’t hide his delight.
He told the club’s official website: “To be 16-years-old still and be this kind of footballer is really good for us.
“He is a brilliant boy, takes the situation really well, wants to learn and he will always be a special player in moments but his overall game is really, really good.
“With a bit more luck he would have scored but he is a good player. We have no bad young players and it’s important to give them these matches.”

For whatever reason, Fulham didn’t see enough in Elliott to offer him a more permanent deal at Craven Cottage. Their loss is Liverpool’s gain, however, and there is a real sense that he could thrive under Klopp.
The German boss was complimentary about the youngster following last night’s win and rightly so.

Elliott looked lively and showed flashes of brilliance against third-tier opposition.
The next challenge for the winger is to earn himself a shot in the Premier League or Champions League.
Getting into the Liverpool team in attack won’t be easy given the plethora of talent available at Klopp’s disposal.
He has shown in the past, however, that if youngsters are good enough then the pathway to feature in matchday squads is relatively clear at Anfield.
