Speaking with The Mirror, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has remained coy on the future of academy star Harry Wilson.

The German manager was forced to field questions regarding the 22-year-old after his stunning goal put the seal on a 3-1 win over Lyon last night.

Liverpool value Wilson at £25 million, according to The Mirror. He has attracted interest from Newcastle and Bournemouth so far this summer, with his future in the air.

Klopp has been impressed with what he has seen but didn’t give too much away.

He told The Mirror: “We are in constant conversations, that’s clear. We have to do the right thing for us and for the boy.

“There is nothing to talk about in public about it, so we will see what happens in the next eight or nine days until the window closes.

“He is obviously a really good player and I was really happy with him in the whole pre-season; he came back from Derby in a completely different shape. That’s a good example of how a loan can really work out – it was for Derby really good and for Harry as well.”

Klopp was delighted with Wilson’s contribution in the club’s last pre-season friendly. He netted a stunning goal to please his boss, despite not playing in his best position.

He continued: “He played not in his best position, he played left wing and did really well. We tried to set it up a little bit so it is more comfortable for him with positioning and stuff like that.

“When he scored the goal, it was just Harry. Brilliant.”

TBR Verdict

Given that Liverpool are yet to make a summer signing it would make perfect sense to keep hold of Wilson.

Klopp doesn’t really have anything to lose by handing him a chance to shine during the competitive campaign.

He has showcased in the friendly games exactly what he is capable of and would deserve his opportunity.

Wilson has served his time out on loan and now is the time for Klopp to send out a clear message to the club’s younger players that they pathway to the first-team is clear.
