Liverpool appear to be edging nearer to a deal to bring Thiago Alcantara to the club, with Bayern Munich supremo Karl-Heinz Rummenigge admitting they won’t allow him to leave for free.

The Spanish maestro has been heavily linked with a move to Anfield in the last few weeks. Indeed, reports surfaced yesterday suggesting the Reds have already agreed to a deal with Bayern for Thiago.

And now, Rummenigge – who is CEO at Bayern – has conceded the player may leave, although he did dismiss any contact with Liverpool as yet.

“We have never had any contact with Liverpool. If he wants to do that, we have to deal with it.

“We had serious negotiations with him and fulfilled all of his wishes. But it looks like he might want to do something new again at the end of his career.

“We don’t want to lose a player for free next year. I say that very clearly.”

The comments from the German seem to suggest that Bayern are open to Thiago moving on this summer.

Of course, being such an integral player, the Bundesliga giants will want to get some good money for the former Barcelona star. Losing him on a free would be disastrous.

Liverpool are looking to add to their squad this summer but pulled out of a deal to sign Timo Werner last month. However, all roads seem to be pointing towards a deal to land the two-time La Liga winner.

This signing would more or less make Liverpool unbeatable next season. They are already a brilliant team but to bring someone in who oozes class, is a born winner, and has experience at the very very top level, would be a masterstroke by Klopp and co.

Bayern seems to have conceded he is going. With that, it looks like Reds fans will be treated to a brilliant new signing that has come somewhat out of nowhere.
