Fabinho and Alisson combined to secure an 11th clean sheet of the season for Liverpool on Sunday as the Reds held Manchester United to a 0-0 draw at Anfield – and Alisson has given a one-word verdict on Fabinho’s display.
The rivalry between the two sides had been somewhat strengthened going into Sunday’s encounter, after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men overtook Liverpool into first place in the Premier League. It was first against second on Merseyside.
In what was a particularly equal game, United probably just shaded the match with Paul Pogba’s late chance the pick of the bunch – blasting the ball at Alisson from close range, with the Brazilian doing superbly to deny him.
The clean sheet was Liverpool’s 11th in 28 league and cup matches this season – of which Fabinho has played 24 times, 18 at centre-back. The former Monaco man, once linked with United, posted on Instagram after the match.
Fabinho, who earns £100k a week, was excellent. WhoScored state he lead his team in terms of interceptions and blocks, while enjoying the second-highest pass completion rate of the outfield players (91% – Mo Salah had 93.3%).
Alisson was full of praise on Instagram for his defensive teammate, responding to his post with a one-word message of “Monstro” – or “Monster” in English. Youngster Billy Koumetio also commented some emojis.
