Liverpool left it late to beat Mexican outfit Monterrey last night. Roberto Firmino’s goal in the 90th minute spared Jurgen Klopp’s blushes.
The Brazilian had started on the bench as the boss chose to play a somewhat weakened team. Xherdan Shaqiri and Divock Origi both getting the nod, alongside Mohamed Salah.
The European Champions took the lead in the 11th minute thanks to Naby Keita. It was shortlived, however, as Rogelio Funes Mori restored parity.
With the game ticking into stoppage time Liverpool flexed their strength. Firmino doing what he does best and sending the Reds into another final.

Virgil van Dijk was an absentee from Liverpool’s squad. Klopp admitted after the game that he was suffering from an illness.
Jordan Henderson partnered Joe Gomez at centre-back and it’s fair to say he didn’t look overly comfortable.
With Dejan Lovren and Joel Matip both injured, Liverpool will hope to have van Dijk back for Sunday’s showdown with Flamengo.
Match of the Day host Gary Lineker believes Liverpool are far weaker without their talismanic defender.
He took to Twitter to imply that Klopp’s team at the back are no better than before van Dijk arrived when he isn’t in the team:
Lineker did reserve praise for Liverpool’s resilience, however.
The Reds have come from behind to salvage points on several occasions this season. Notable games against Aston Villa, Leicester City and Manchester United have seen Liverpool grasp points at the death.
Lineker feels it is something that Liverpool are becoming ‘quite good’ at:
Liverpool must perform better if they are to beat Flamengo.
They roared to the Brazilian title in 2019 finishing 16 points clear of Santos in second.
Van Dijk’s presence would certainly help them address some erratic defending last night.
