Bayern Munich’s unusually poor defensive record may have had Liverpool licking their lips ahead of last night’s Champions League last 16 first leg at Anfield.
The German champions have not been at their best at all this season but they showed the resilience and experience that has contributed to their impressive European record down the years to earn a 0-0 draw.
Liverpool needed to show a touch more precision than they were able to manage and it didn’t help that their front three were not at the absolute top of their game.
But while Sadio Mane got into positions and Roberto Firmino worked tirelessly, Mo Salah was perpetually on the fringes of the encounter – unable to exert as much influence on the game as he and Liverpool might have hoped.

Salah is of course usually so popular among the Reds’ faithful but the supporters were not impressed with his impact on such a big match.
He was so key to last season’s European rampage but was not able to hit those swashbuckling heights last night as Bayern’s full-backs defended very intelligently, leaving little space in behind for him to exploit.
Jurgen Klopp needs Salah back to his best for the trip to Old Trafford to face Manchester United on Sunday and these supporters were hoping he can be as well…
