Liverpool begin the defence of their Premier League crown on Saturday evening against Leeds United – and some of the club’s supporters on Twitter have urged manager Jurgen Klopp to start Takumi Minamino.

The Reds steamrolled their way to the league title last season in emphatic fashion and face newly-promoted Leeds over the weekend at Anfield, who were last season’s winners of the Championship.

The Merseyside giants will go into the fixture as overwhelming favourites to earn three points, but lost the FA Cup Community Shield recently to Arsenal on penalties and also lost their momentum at the back-end of the campaign after the title had been clinched.

They will need to click the refresh button going into the new season and have got a star-studded squad that have been together for a number of years now.

A selection of Liverpool supporters on social media have said in the build-up to the Leeds fixture that they would like to see Minamino start.

The Japanese attacker joined the club in January from Red Bull Salzburg, but played a fringe role in the second half of last season and failed to score or assist in any of his 14 appearances.

But the 25-year-old winger has looked sharp in pre-season so far and came off the bench against Arsenal in the Community Shield to score his first competitive goal for the club.
