Danny Ings starred for Southampton as Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side produced a shock 1-0 win over Manchester City on the south coast – and Liverpool supporters have discussed luring the striker back to Anfield this summer.
Ings joined Liverpool in 2015 but was limited to just 25 appearances before being loaned to Southampton for the 2018-19 season – with a deal being made permanent last summer. Injuries hampered the one-time England cap.
Indeed, Ings suffered two anterior cruciate ligament problems but he is now showing the kind of form that saw him earn a Liverpool move from Burnley in the first place. He has netted 29 goals in 62 Saints outings.
Last season, Ings netted eight in 25 but it is his stunning form this season that has caught the eye of many – with some pundits even suggesting an England call-up should be on the cards. He has netted 21 in 37 this term.
Though he did not score on Sunday evening, the £20million Southampton signing (BBC) worked his socks off as Southampton tore up the script to beat Pep Guardiola’s side 1-0 – thanks to Che Adams’ wonder goal.
Following his performance on Sunday and his form this season, many Liverpool fans took to Twitter following his efforts to discuss whether the Reds should look to lure him back to Anfield – and replace Divock Origi.
Am I the only one that wishes that we kept Danny Ings instead of Origi?

Yes. Ings is a much better player than Origi.

I know the reasons why it happened but I really wish Ings had stayed and Origi was at Southampton. Actually he’s not even good enough for them. #LFC

Origi for Ings. Straight swap.

Yeah, even though I love Origi I think Ings is a better player and more suited to Klopp's style.
Maybe the one that got away.

Sell Origi, re-sign Ings. Summer window sorted.
