Liverpool fans want Mo Salah rested against Saudi Arabia

With Egypt looking dead and buried Liverpool fans want their talisman rested.

Liverpool fans watched on with trepidation last night, as Mohamed Salah returned from his shoulder ligament injury to face Russia at the World Cup. Carrying the hopes of his nation, the attacker did find the back of the net from the penalty spot – his 46th goal for club and country this season. However, Russia were already 3-0 up at the time and Salah’s Egypt look set for an early exit.

With Saudi Arabia facing Uruguay today a win or draw from the South American side will send Egypt and the Saudis home. Not many hold out hope of a shock here.

For Salah it is a shame he did not have the chance to showcase his best talents for his nation. Following his injury suffered at the hands of Sergio Ramos in the Champions League final his participation at the World Cup was always in doubt. It appears he was not yet ready.

The Liverpool man looked lethargic for much of the game. He also seemed to play with an element of fear, as if not yet fully recovered from the stress of his shoulder injury.

So what next?

As far as Liverpool fans are concerned, there is one option. If Egypt, as expected, are out of the World Cup by the final game then Salah should not play any part against Saudi Arabia.

As far as Liverpool’s fans are concerned their star player now needs a well-earned rest after a grueling season and recent troubles.

Whether or not Hector Cuper, the Egypt coach, will agree remains to be seen. But Liverpool fans will hope Salah soon has his feet up getting prepared mentally for pre-season training with Liverpool.

No doubt the Liverpool star deserves it…
