Liverpool fans want Memphis Depay at Anfield after scoring for Lyon

Memphis Depay scored from the penalty spot for Lyon on Wednesday before Liverpool came back to win 3-1 – and fans of the Anfield club have urged their club to bring the Dutchman to Merseyside before August 8.

The 25-year-old scored a penalty, sending Brazilian goalkeeper Alisson the wrong way and slamming the ball into top corner. The penalty was conceded by Alisson, who made a horrible error – eventually fouling Moussa Dembele.

Liverpool went on to win the game 3-1 in Switzerland, thanks to goals from Roberto Firmino, Harry Wilson and an own goal from Joachim Anderson. The result was perhaps harsh on Lyon who acquitted themselves well.

A lovely turn and finish saw Firmino equalise, before Ki-Jana Hoever’s cross was inadvertently turned into his own goal by new Lyon signing Anderson – who joined the club from Sampdoria, amid Premier League interest.

But the pick of the goals came from left-footed wizard Harry Wilson, who slammed home an effort from all of 25 yards that flew into the top corner. Depay, though, was probably the pick of the Lyon players.

The former Manchester United star was in sensational form for Lyon last season, again. He scored 12 goals and laid on another 16 assists in all competitions, and Liverpool fans want the Netherlands cap at Anfield.

The Mirror claimed back in April that Liverpool were one of a handful of sides interested in splashing £50million on the former PSV Eindhoven star, and Liverpool fans want him signed after watching Depay on Wednesday.
