Liverpool fans want James Milner at right-back against Leicester

Liverpool host Leicester City on Sunday night in a huge showdown – and some of the Reds supporters on Twitter want to see James Milner start his first Premier League game of the season.

Despite the shock defeat to Aston Villa in October, it’s been a strong start to the new season for Jurgen Klopp’s team as they look to defend their title.

Liverpool are third in the league table ahead of the weekend’s fixture, but their opponent Leicester have topped the table during the international break and are a point better off than them after eight games.

The Reds go into the contest with plenty of injury problems, especially in their defence.

Centre-backs Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez are both sidelined with long-term problems, but first-choice right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold is another out of action for Sunday.

A selection of Liverpool supporters on social media have been discussing the full-back dilemma for Klopp and believe Milner is the answer to the solution.

Milner, who earns £140,000-a-week (Spotrac), is a senior member of the dressing room and has the versatility to play several positions on the pitch.

The 34-year-old hasn’t started a single game in the league so far this season, but has been given plenty of cameos and has still made 11 appearances across all competitions.

The Englishman is most comfortable in the midfield and occasionally drops back into left-back, but it wouldn’t be his first attempt at right-back if he does get the nod.

Here are some Liverpool fans suggesting Milner should be the stand-in for Alexander-Arnold:
