Liverpool fans want Gerrard star signed after brilliant Tuesday night display
John McGinn has been excellent since the arrival of Steven Gerrard as Aston Villa manager. On Tuesday night, he helped Villa beat Norwich – and Liverpool fans have urged their club to sign McGinn.
The 27-year-old midfielder is getting better and better with every minute of football he plays in the Premier League. Since Villa were promoted, he has played 81 out of a possible 93 league games in the top tier.
His consistency and work rate are impressive, but his growing impact on a game is also noticeable. This season, he has already had a hand in five goals – scoring three himself, and laying on two assists.
Gerrard has transformed Villa’s fortunes since arriving, winning four of his games and only narrowly losing to Liverpool and Manchester City. Villa have gone from 16th, to ninth, under the Liverpool legend.
McGinn has played every minute, apart from being substituted in the 88th away at Norwich on Tuesday. Once again, he was incredibly effective in the middle of the park for Gerrard’s newly-inherited side.
What are Liverpool fans saying about Villa midfielder McGinn?
Liverpool could obviously do with a midfielder. Gini Wijnaldum was not replaced in the summer, and Naby Keita is likely to represent Mali at the African Cup of Nations. Harvey Elliott and Curtis Jones are returning.
But with Mo Salah and Sadio Mane also going to AFCON, Elliott and Jones could be used in the front three. It higlights a severe lack of depth in the middle of the park. In the summer, The Athletic said Liverpool want £50m-rated McGinn.
Having watched him impress at Carrow Road, including a shot from all of 35 yards that was tipped over the bar by Norwich goalkeeper Tim Krul – Liverpool fans want McGinn brought to Anfield.
