It’s been a long, old slog of a season for Liverpool and it seems as though their fans have AC Milan midfielder Franck Kessie earmarked as an ideal addition to their ranks.

The 24-year-old was in action for the Italian giants last night as they lost 1-0 to Manchester United to miss out on a place in the quarter-finals of the Europa League.

Kessie was cruelly denied a goal at Old Trafford in the first leg. He was adjudged to have handled the ball in the build-up to the strike which fizzed into the top corner.

The midfielder has enjoyed a remarkable campaign though and his quality is catching the eye of several top European outfits ahead of the summer transfer window.

Kessie has found the net on nine occasions during the 2020/21 campaign and has been an integral part of the team. Milan currently sit second in Serie A and are firmly in the title race.

Their strong form this season has been helped by the Ivorian’s form and Milan will almost certainly field some calls regarding his services in the summer.

Some supporters hope that Liverpool are one of those clubs and they raved about the international performer during last night’s clash of the titans.

Jurgen Klopp hasn’t enjoyed a good season at Anfield. His champions have been decimated with injury and their title will be relinquished with a whimper.

Crucial stars like Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip have been missing for the majority of the campaign.

Jordan Henderson and Fabinho have spent their time playing at centre-back and in turn that has damaged the harmony in midfield.

The future

It looks like being a big summer for Liverpool and FSG simply have to sign some proven players to bolster the squad and back Klopp.

Ambitious plans will remain in place at the club will hope to roar back with a vengeance next season, proving this campaign has been a mere blip in the process.

Stellar recruits could be required in each area and the midfield engine room could certainly do with some reinforcement.

Gini Wijnaldum has been linked with a move to Barcelona, whilst Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain have struggled to stay fit.

As a result, pursuing Kessie would make a whole lot of sense from Liverpool’s point of view and they could certainly do a lot worse.

At 25, the midfielder fits the profile quite nicely of a Liverpool signing, with his best years still ahead of him.

Kessie perhaps wouldn’t cost a fortune either. Although a transfer valuation isn’t currently being mentioned, the player earns £55,000-a-week at the San Siro.

Liverpool will hope to attract some quality in the summer and the man with 44 Ivory Coast caps to his name could be a useful addition.

Following last night’s defeat for Milan, Liverpool fans took to Twitter and urged FSG to act to land Klopp a new midfield enforcer in the summer.

Here is what they were saying about Kessie.
