Liverpool fans suggest Reds target Croatian attacker Mislav Orsic

Dinamo Zagreb produced a stunning European win over Tottenham on Thursday night – and one player caught the eye of some Liverpool fans on Twitter.

Croatian champions Dinamo produced a stunning display to beat Spurs 3-0 yesterday, which gave them a 3-2 victory on aggregate over the two legged Europa League last-16 tie, and dealt a massive blow to Jose Mourinho’s men.

Mislav Orsic was the match-winner who will go down in Dinamo folklore for his remarkable hat-trick, while for Spurs fans he will be remembered for the wrong reasons.

The 28-year-old scored all three goals for his side against the Premier League opposition, which even left a selection of Liverpool fans on social media asking for their club to try bring him to Anfield in the summer.

Orsic, who has spent most of his career playing in the Croatian league, opened the scoring with a stunning effort from distance that he curled into the top corner past goalkeeper Hugo Lloris.

The left-winger then took the game to extra time with a second. As Dinamo pushed for an equaliser on aggregate, he timed his run perfectly into the box and finished with a calm low shot.

His hat-trick clinching was arguably the pick of the lot.

The skilful wide player managed to ghost through a string of Spurs defenders with a mesmerising run and finished from the edge of the box, all this taking place in extra time after a gruesome 106 minutes at that stage.

His display was a European classic, and will be remembered for a long time.

After his Thursday masterclass, Liverpool fans were mentioning him as a possible target.

He’s a skilful attacker with great pace, close control and dribbling, plus he’s shown he can find the back of the net with ease.

The talented Croatian now has 19 goals and eight assists in 36 games across all competitions this season. Whether he’s capable of making a gigantic step to a European giant like Liverpool though is something that remains to be seen.

Liverpool are crying out some extra firepower going into next season.

Diogo Jota’s arrival on Merseyside this season has added much-needed competition to the settled front trio of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane.

If they are in the market for another forward ahead of next season, Jurgen Klopp’s side should be searching in the top bracket for individuals that are guaranteed to push hard of a starting position.

Liverpool’s frontline has set such ridiculous high standards that it was going to be impossible to keep it going for four of five years, but the injection of fresh competition and top players will really help.

It would be great to see Orsic in English football in some capacity though.

He looks tailor-made to play in the Premier League with his attacking flair and speed, but the fact he’s not played in one of Europe’s top divisions at the age of 28 is one big mark against his name.
