Liverpool fans stunned at stat involving Matip and Spurs star Harry Kane
Tottenham star Harry Kane hasn’t got the 2021/22 season off to a flyer and a stat has emerged that has left Liverpool fans in stitches.
Kane failed to find the net for the fourth time in the Premier League this season on Sunday.
So far this season he has failed to produce a shot on target in the league and there are some worrying signs regarding Kane.
The 28-year-old was linked with a move to Manchester City during the summer, although Daniel Levy stood firm on his valuation.
Now, there are some signs that Kane is struggling. A stat from Who Scored produced an alarming stat at the weekend that makes for astonishing reading.
The football analysis website claim that Liverpool defender Joel Matip has touched the ball more times in the opposition box this season than Spurs man Kane.
Both players have featured in four games for their respective clubs. Matip has made 11 touches in the opposition box, with Kane having just 10.
Of course, there isn’t really a comparison when it comes to the two players. Matip is a strong defender in his own right but Kane is a world-class performer.
What has gone wrong for Kane and what are Liverpool fans saying?
Quite simply, there is enough to suggest that Kane isn’t doing what he does best anymore.
He is dropping deeper to get on the ball and isn’t getting in the box to get on the end of chances that are being created.
Kane isn’t a midfielder. He’s a centre forward and an extremely good one at that. If this is Nuno Espirito Santo telling him to play this way, then he needs to change it.
For now though, Liverpool fans have taken an interest in amusing themselves at Kane’s plight.
They have taken to Twitter to speak of their intrigue at Matip having more touches in the opposition box than the Tottenham man.
Here is what they had to say on the social media platform.
