Liverpool centre-forward Daniel Sturridge is reportedly in line for a new contract at Anfield and it underpins the importance of manager Jurgen Klopp.

According to the Sun, the 29-year-old is prepared to extend his stay with the Merseyside club and could now sign a contract extension worth £140,000-a-week.

His current deal with the Reds is due to expire at the end of the season, but he’s managed to force his way back into contention this campaign.

The striker has scored four goals in nine appearances across all competitions, but remarkably is yet to start a Premier League fixture.

Klopp’s brilliant man-managing style appears to have convinced Sturridge to commit his future to Liverpool, despite the fact he is playing second fiddle to Roberto Firmino in attack.

Sturridge has been extremely unfortunate with injuries throughout his career, but everybody knows that he’s a clinical finisher and a serious threat when he’s fit.

His loan spell away at West Brom last season appeared to signal the end of his Liverpool career, but Klopp deserves credit for bringing him back in from the cold and showing belief in him.

Liverpool would find it extremely difficult to find a better back-up striker than Sturridge and supporters will hope he can play an important role in a push for the Premier League title.
