Liverpool fans rip into ‘ineffective’ Philippe Coutinho after his Barcelona display

Liverpool trail 3-0 on aggregate after the first leg away to Barcelona on Wednesday night, which leaves them with an uphill struggle in the Champions League semi-finals.

Jurgen Klopp’s team need a mighty comeback at Anfield next week in the second leg if they are to reach the final, but it looks like they will be made to pay for missed opportunities.

Luis Suarez scored a goal before half-time to give Spanish hosts Barcelona the lead and he managed to ghost in behind the defence to tap in.

Lionel Messi then turned on the style in the second-half with two goals, the second of which was a remarkable 35-yard free-kick.

Liverpool went toe-to-toe with a couple of old faces, as ex-Reds star Suarez and Philippe Coutinho lined up against them.

Some Liverpool fans on Twitter were highly critical of former player Coutinho for his performance and feel that he was poor in the game.

The left-winger was a popular individual during his time at Anfield, but there is certainly no love lost and he could be in for a hostile reception next week.

Coutinho, 26, moved to Barcelona for £142million (BBC Sport) back in 2018 and hasn’t quite made the desired impact at the Camp Nou.

The Brazil international has 11 goals across all competitions this campaign and was upstaged by some of his teammates on Wednesday night.
