Teenage Liverpool defender Ki-Jana Hoever has signed a new long-term deal at Anfield, as confirmed by the club’s official website.

The 17-year-old has signed the first professional deal of his career and is looking to continue his improvement with the Reds.

He said: “I’m really happy to have signed here. I need to be realistic. I hope to make some minutes in the first team this year, but I will probably play more games for the U23s. If there is a chance, I will be ready.

“I still need to learn a lot of things. It’s a lot of trust from the club. I will try to do them proud and show what I can do and I hope these are not the last few years I play here.”

Many Liverpool fans have been getting twitchy over their club’s lack of transfer business but they were excited by the announcement of Hoever’s new deal in the mean-time.

They are excited by how good the defender could become, with one or two mentioning that he has the quality to go on and become as good as Virgil van Dijk.

Jurgen Klopp has prioritised long-term improvement this summer and the teenager will hope to be a major part of the Reds’ future after signing this new deal.
