Liverpool fans have been reacting to reports the club attempted to sign Villarreal winger Samuel Chukwueze in January.
According to France Football, the Reds lodged a bid of €35 million/£30 million to snap up the Nigeria international, which was swiftly rejected by the Spanish outfit.
Apparently the club would expect suitors to make an offer nearer to the player’s release clause, which is thought to be €65 million/£55 million.

Chukwueze is seen by many as one of La Liga’s most exciting prospects, with his pace and dribbling the things he is best known for.
His rapid acceleration, combined with dazzling footwork, make him a huge threat for Villarreal, and he appears to have a lot of potential at the age of 20.
The left-footed ace operates mainly from a right-wing position, but has the capacity to play on the left too.

Any move for Chukwueze, who has four goals and four assists from 26 appearances so far this season, would possibly have repercussions for Xherdan Shaqiri.
The Switzerland international is an option for Jurgen Klopp to play right-wing, but the German has used him sparingly since his 2018 arrival, and his fitness problems may see him moved on this summer.
Liverpool fans react
Some Liverpool fans on social media were quite excited by the supposed bid for Chukwueze, although there were some who had concerns about the idea of signing another African player due to AFCON being moved back to mid-season:
