Liverpool reportedly have Atletico Madrid defender Jose Gimenez on their transfer radar – and some of the club’s supporters on Twitter have given a mixed response to the speculation.
Italian publication Passione Inter reports that Jurgen Klopp’s side are expecting to lose current centre-back Dejan Lovren at the end of the season and are eyeing possible replacements.
It is claimed that Klopp has put Gimenez on his shortlist, while RB Leipzig’s Dayot Upamecano is another defender being eyed.
Gimenez is currently on the books at Spanish outfit Atletico and a spate of injury problems mean he’s played just 16 games across all competitions this season.
The 58-time capped Uruguay international has started to encounter several injuries issues during the last couple of years, but he’s already proven himself on the elite stage and has plenty of pedigree.
He has made 180 first-team appearances for Atletico and once formed a brilliant centre-back combination next to Diego Godin, who now plays for Inter Milan.
Gimenez, 25, is a ball-playing defender that is calm in possession and strong the air, plus he recently came off the bench to help Atletico knock Liverpool out of the Champions League.

A selection of Liverpool supporters on social media are convinced that Gimenez would be a great addition at Anfield and would like to see the Merseyside club ramp up their interest.
But there are others who have pointed towards his injury problems, as well as doubting whether he could break up the current centre-back pairing of Virgil Van DIjk and Joe Gomez.
