Liverpool fans react to performance of Sadio Mane during Southampton defeat

Liverpool were beaten 1-0 by Southampton with a first-minute goal from Danny Ings settling the St Mary’s Stadium contest.

The Reds were badly out of sorts in the first half and although an improvement was evident after the break, they couldn’t find a way through.

It means that Manchester United remain level on points with Liverpool at the summit of the Premier League.

The two sides meet at Anfield in just under two weeks and that promises to be a stunning contest.

Liverpool will want to quickly put last night to bed but might take some positives out of Sadio Mane’s performance.

He was denied what looked a clear penalty in the second half and constantly tried to get the Reds going.

The £100,000-a-week performer hasn’t quite been at his prolific best yet this season but that hasn’t been through a lack of effort.

Mane has scored eight goals and claimed five assists during 23 appearances this season.

After last night’s performance supporters weren’t impressed – although they were satisfied with Mane.

Whilst others were criticised for their performances, the Senegal international came in for some praise on Twitter.
