Liverpool’s under-23 outfit roared into the last 16 of the Premier League Cup with a comfortable 6-0 demolition of Sunderland at the club’s training ground.
A brace from Joe Hardy, Liam Millar and a late Curtis Jones hat-trick saw Neil Critchley’s men home.
The boss decided to play a strong team. Jones, Neco Williams, Ki-Jana Hoever, Pedro Chirivella, Harvey Elliott and Adam Lewis all started the contest.
It was the performance of two-goal hero Hardy that caught the eye, however. He netted in the 3-0 win over Huddersfield Town on Friday night and seemingly can’t stop scoring goals.

Hardy came through the ranks as a youngster at Manchester City but was released and picked up by Brentford.
During his time with the youth ranks at Griffin Park, he smashed an impressive 40 goals in 80 games for the club.
Swapping West London for Neil Critchley’s under-23 ranks has clearly been a good move. The 21-year-old looks set for a bright future and right now he has the Midas touch.
Following his latest brace, supporters have taken to Twitter to rave about the youngster with many tipping him for big things.
Here is a selection of tweets from Liverpool supporters in response to Hardy’s latest double-salvo.
