Liverpool fans react to Patrik Schick display during Euro 2020 opener
Patrik Schick laid down a market for the goal of Euro 2020 yesterday and now Liverpool fans have been discussing him on Twitter.
The Czech Republic star scored from just outside his own half to leave Scotland goalkeeper David Marshall all ends up.
It secured a 2-0 win for his country and dampened the Scots’ first game in a major tournament for 23 years.
Schick is at Bayer Leverkusen where he is on the back of a decent campaign. He fired 1 goals and claimed two assists for the Bundesliga outfit.
His form earned him a call-up for Euro 2020. His brace yesterday has given the Czechs a massive chance to qualify for the knockout stages.
Prior to signing for Leverkusen, the 25-year-old spent time with RB Leipzig, Roma, Sampdoria and Spata Prague.
He does appear to be settled now, however, and it seems unlikely he will leave his current club.
That hasn’t stopped Liverpool fans waxing lyrical about him after yesterday’s clinical display.
Hindsight is a wonderful thing and a good Euro 2020 could perhaps tempt some clubs to make some big offers for the striker.
Schick operated as a lone striker yesterday and showed some real maturity in his play.
That trait is perhaps one that Liverpool fans liked the look of, with a different option in attack perhaps on Jurgen Klopp’s agenda.
Divock Origi will probably leave Anfield this summer and a backup striker will be sought.
Shick’s heroics on the international stage have clearly caught the eye. To gain substantial interest, however, he’ll need to do well against Croatia and England too.
His confidence will be sky high though and he can look ahead to the rest of the tournament.
Does Shick fit the bill of a Liverpool signing?
Signing the Czech striker probably wouldn’t satisfy Liverpool fans and their need for a stellar recruit.
He could prove a shrewd addition though and is perhaps one for Liverpool to monitor going forward.
Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino are all at a similar age.
As a result, Klopp might choose to add some younger options to his attacking arsenal and why not Schick?
He would bring something different to the attack and at 25 has the potential to improve in the coming years.
Liverpool lacked the ability to mix it up last season. They dropped a lot of points through a lack of a different strategy and Klopp will seek reinforcements.
Schick only changed clubs as recently as September and a summer move does seem unlikely.
Liverpool might choose to monitor him for another season, with the intention of pouncing in the next couple of years.
Supporters certainly enjoyed the moment of sublime talent from the £88,000-a-week star yesterday.
They took to Twitter to discuss his brilliance and it seems plenty would welcome him checking in at Anfield.
Following his silencing of the Scots, we looked at what Liverpool fans had to say about Schick on social media.
The consensus seems clear that Liverpool should consider a move to sign the Leverkusen talisman.
