Liverpool fans react to Joel Matip display at Norwich

A number of Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to comment on Joel Matip after the defender started the opening game of the season as the Reds beat Norwich 3-0 on Saturday.

Jurgen Klopp’s men negotiated a potentially-tricky curtain-raiser with a professional performance. Goals from Diogo Jota, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah sealed the points for the visitors at Carrow Road.

There was plenty for Liverpool fans to get excited about.

Salah continued his incredible run on the opening day. Firmino got off to a goalscoring start after a tricky campaign for the forward. And Liverpool welcomed back Virgil Van Dijk to the starting lineup.

Van Dijk was excellent. But it was the man alongside him who won many of the plaudits on social media.

Matip is another hoping to enjoy a lot more luck with injury this season. The Cameroon international has only made 19 Premier League appearances across the last two campaigns.

However, he was outstanding against the Canaries. He read the game superbly, looked assured in possession, and was producing some superb passes into forward areas.

That prompted many Liverpool fans to express their hope that he will be a little luckier with injuries this term. The £100,000-a-week star has proved to be an incredible signing on a free transfer.

And the supporters insisted that he was one of the standouts on Saturday.
