A number of Liverpool fans have taken to social media to laud Ibrahima Konate after the 22-year-old produced a superb international display on Sunday.
After weeks of speculation, the Reds completed a deal to sign the centre-back in the last few days. According to Sky Sports, Jurgen Klopp’s men have paid £36 million to take him from RB Leipzig.
And Liverpool fans have been rewarded following the announcement with Konate lining up in the France under-21 side that faced The Netherlands in Budapest.
The French finished second in their group back in March. But with Konate playing alongside Dayot Upamecano, it was difficult to see their opponents getting many chances.
In fact, it was Upamecano who would break the deadlock. But The Netherlands would indeed find an equaliser during the second-half.
And they could have got a fantastic chance to take the lead had it not been for a stunning challenge from Konate on the edge of the box.
Ultimately, The Netherlands did grab a dramatic winner, breaking away in the final minute of stoppage-time after the French had failed to take their raft of chances.
Nevertheless, plenty of Liverpool fans were full of praise for the youngster’s display. Many seem even more excited about seeing him on Merseyside next season.
