Gary Lineker has made a comment about the position of Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold on the pitch – and some Liverpool fans on Twitter responded to massively disagree with him.
Lineker claimed on Wednesday night that he thinks the 22-year-old defender is too good to be just a right-back.
“Trent Alexander-Arnold is too good to be a full-back,” Lineker told BT Sport 2 during coverage of Liverpool v Real Madrid (14 April).
If you look at Alexander-Arnold’s meteoric rise in the last few years, it’s been at right-back.
He’s gone from Reds academy product to a household name, winning a Premier League title and a Champions League already in his young career.
Alexander-Arnold is questioned at times over his defensive work with his back to goal, but everyone knows how much he offers going forward in the final third.
There are many that have suggested his long-term position should be in midfield, an area he played in his youth days, and it’s down to his quality on the ball.
He already has 41 assists during his senior Liverpool career, but it’s worth pointing out that playing at full-back allows him to occupy the right channel and cross balls in with pinpoint accuracy at will.

A selection of Liverpool supporters on social media suggest it would be a mistake to disrupt Alexander-Arnold’s position.
He’s a much-talked about player right now due to the fact he was left out of the previous England squad with the summer’s European Championships fast approaching, but he can just continue to try keep up his strong form at Anfield that he’s recently found.
