Liverpool fans react to Danny Murphy’s comments on Arsenal’s Granit Xhaka

A number of Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to react to comments made by Danny Murphy on talkSPORT where he suggested that Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka would look a hell of a player if he played for Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Few players in the Premier League seem to have come in for more criticism than Xhaka. He has struggled for much of his time with the Gunners. And his form contributed to his own fans turning on him as he left the field earlier this season.

But there have also been glimpses of Xhaka’s quality since his arrival in England. And – perhaps surprisingly after being quite scathing in his assessment of the Swiss’ performance in Arsenal’s FA Cup win over Leeds United on Monday – Murphy insisted that he could be a success at Liverpool.

“If Xhaka was in Liverpool’s side with [Jordan] Henderson and Fabinho he would look a hell of a player, because he is technically good, a good passer, has a great shot on him and he has the ability with his great left foot to open you up,” he told talkSPORT.

“But when you are playing in a team that is struggling a bit, he is a passenger defensively and a liability.”

In fact, many do not believe that he would get anywhere near Klopp’s side. Murphy does not appear to be suggesting that Xhaka is good enough for Liverpool, but rather that his teammates would be better equipped to hide his weaknesses.

Nevertheless, the Reds fans on social media are adamant that he does not have the ability to play any role in Klopp’s side. Perhaps they feel that Murphy’s comments are doing a disservice to what each individual in Liverpool’s squad brings to the side.

Here is what some of the Liverpool fans made of Murphy’s comments…
