Liverpool fans react to Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain performance against Brighton

The England international struggled playing in a wide position for Liverpool.

Liverpool won their 30th league game of the season this evening with a hard-fought win over Brighton at the Amex Arena.

After racing into a 2-0 lead, it seemed as though Liverpool were going to put on a show. However, Brighton fought back and a goal from Leonardo Trossard before the break gave Brighton hope. Dan Burn then missed a sitter of a chance to equalise before Mo Salah secured a 3-1 win with a headed effort from Andrew Robertson’s expertly taken corner.

It was an indifferent display from Liverpool and plenty of players struggled to showcase their best form.

One such player was Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. The England international struggled to have an impact on the game, playing from the left wing with Sadio Mane rested on the bench. He also neglected his defensive duties for the Brighton goal, leaving youngster Neco Williams exposed and out of his regular position at left-back.

The Senegalese star eventually replaced him and fans on Twitter were fairly disappointed with the performance of ‘Ox’.

But there was also a lot of sympathy for the player. It has become clear during his time at Anfield that Oxlade-Chamberlain is more suited to a central midfield role and he seemed to struggle being asked to play on the wing once again.

If he is to get a more regular starting role at Anfield, there is no doubt that Liverpool fans would want to see him playing centrally rather than out wide.

Here is some of the reaction to his display from Twitter…
