Liverpool fans react on Twitter to Thiago display

A number of Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to comment on Thiago Alcantara after his performance in the Reds’ win over Porto in the Champions League at Anfield on Wednesday.

Jurgen Klopp’s continued their flawless group-stage campaign and made it five wins from five. They beat the Portuguese side 2-0 on Merseyside, with Mohamed Salah doubling the advantage after Thiago had given Liverpool the lead.

With a place in the knockout stages already guaranteed, Klopp was able to make some changes for the contest. But Thiago was amongst those to keep his place in the middle of the park.

He was arguably the best player on the pitch during the goalless first-half. And he got his rewards for that performance just seven minutes after the interval as he broke the deadlock.

In truth, the 30-year-old produced one of the most outrageous strikes the Kop has likely ever seen.

It is somehow Steven Gerrard versus Olympiacos and Steven Gerrard versus West Ham both rolled into one goal.

Thiago came off 10 minutes later, being replaced by Jordan Henderson. It certainly appears to be a sign that Klopp wants to keep him fresh for Saturday’s clash with Southampton.

Unsurprisingly, many on social media insisted that Thiago scored one of the best goals they have ever seen.

But plenty also felt that he had produced a masterclass throughout the game. It is remarkable after a performance such as that to think that Thiago has come in for so much criticism since coming to the Premier League.
