Liverpool fans react on Twitter to Thiago Alcantara’s Merseyside derby display

A number of Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to comment on Thiago Alcantara’s performance in Saturday’s Merseyside derby.

It proved to be a frustrating day for the Reds. Jurgen Klopp’s men were outstanding in the opening stages and took an early lead through Sadio Mane.

But they soon lost Virgil van Dijk to injury. And Everton were level shortly after that.

Liverpool created the better chances from that moment. And they finally got themselves back in front with just under 20 minutes with Mo Salah producing a superb finish.

Unfortunately, it was not enough to secure the three points. But that did not stop Thiago receiving a number of plaudits from the supporters on social media following the game.

The Spain international has made a fantastic start to life in the Premier League. And that continued with an inspired display in the middle of the park.

‘What a player’

Some of his distribution left Liverpool fans stunned. As shown by Whoscored.com, no player on the pitch got close to making the same number of passes as the former Bayern Munich man. Jordan Henderson was second, with 20 fewer.

And it looked as though one stunning no-look pass he made late on would play a key role in deciding the game. Controversially however, Mane was deemed to be in an offside position as he received the ball before finding Henderson.

While some were left bemused by that decision, there is no question that Thiago’s reading of the game alongside Fabinho also saw the visitors come out on top in that crucial area of the pitch.

Many felt that the 29-year-old did an exemplary job of dictating what proved to be a tough game for the Reds. And while the result was not ideal, it is clear that Thiago has once again shown why signing him in the summer was a stroke of genius.
