A number of Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to comment on Leighton Clarkson’s performance as the 19-year-old made his Champions League debut on Wednesday.
Jurgen Klopp’s men rounded off the group-stages with a point against Midtjylland. They took the lead inside the first minute through Mohamed Salah. But the home side were much better after the break and scored an equaliser from the penalty spot.

With Liverpool already through, the game provided Klopp with an opportunity to test out some of his younger players. Billy Koumetio came on at the break. But it was Clarkson who was handed a place in the starting lineup.
The midfielder produced arguably a very encouraging performance. And there were certainly glimpses of a player who could have a very bright future amongst the first-team at Anfield.

As shown by Whoscored, he completed 41 passes. Fabinho and Rhys Williams were the only Liverpool players to manage more.
Admittedly, there are some on social media who were more critical of the teenager’s performance. But the large majority appear to feel that Clarkson gave a great account of himself.
Liverpool struggled after Fabinho went off at the break. They certainly came under a lot of pressure at times. But Clarkson surely vindicated Klopp’s decision to give him a chance.
